School House
Reconstructed in 1999

The building reflects the rural practice of using existing structures for schools—often leased, donated, or abandoned by their owners. Locations were chosen for convenience within a five-mile radius, and most children attended “short session” schools due to the demands of farm labor and the extended growing season.

Today, visitors can step back in time with an old-fashioned school lesson, practicing writing with a quill pen and ink. This hands-on experience remains a favorite for both children and adults.

The Log School House at Millard’s Crossing was reconstructed in 1999 with the generous support of the Nacogdoches Junior Forum.
